Hard work pays off for GBHS students at Job Olympics in Hays

Ten students from Great Bend High School showcased their skills and determination at the 2026 Job Olympics, held April 1 in Hays, bringing home an impressive total of 20 medals.

The Job Olympics is a day-long event designed to help students build real-world employability skills and gain confidence as they prepare for future careers. Participants compete in a variety of hands-on events that highlight workplace readiness, communication, and problem-solving abilities.

Representing Great Bend High School were Payton Edwards, Nayeli Castruita, Gabriel Valles Gonzalez, Braylen Lininger, Ethan Hoilien, Casandra Martinez, Laynie Ochs, Gracie Quesenbury, Tracy Sohl, and Michael Stevenson Jr.

“These students work hard every day to build skills they can use in life beyond high school,” said Trish Berger, Vocational Program Coordinator and Special Education Teacher at Great Bend High School. “Seeing them apply their skills with confidence and success was an amazing moment.”

The students’ combined achievement of 20 medals highlights both individual excellence and the strength of the school’s vocational and special education programming.

Great Bend High School continues to provide opportunities for students to develop practical skills that support lifelong success in the workforce and community.
