Mary Louise Moyers

Mary Louise Moyers, 98, longtime resident of Hays, died Thursday, February 18, 2021, at Main Street Manor in Russell.

She was born August 5, 1922, in Pennsboro, West Virginia, the daughter of John A. and Macy M. Farley.  She attended and graduated from the Pennsboro public schools.  Louise graduated from the DeSalle School of Nursing of St. Mary’s Hospital in Clarksburg, West Virginia.  After graduation, she served as surgical nurse, emergency nurse, and later as Night Supervisor.  On August 25, 1948, she was united in marriage to Edwin Moyers in Clarksburg, West Virginia, and they celebrated nearly 53 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on August 20, 2001.  They started their life together in Fayette, Missouri where she worked as a nurse in the area hospital.  After moving to Kingsville, Texas, she worked as a nurse in the Kleberg Hospital in Kingsville, and later as a school nurse and county school nurse on the King Ranch.  When they moved to Hays in 1959, she worked at Hadley Hospital, serving the last twenty years prior to retirement as Head of the Psychological Floor.  Her memberships included Hays First United Methodist Church, the Century Club, Hays Lioness Club, and the Hadley Nurse’s Club.  She loved her work as a nurse, listening to her husband play music as a professor of music and symphony member at FHSU, attending Tiger football and basketball games, overseas travel, her grandchildren, and her pet poodles.

Survivors include her two sons: Michael Moyers of Shanghai, China and Randal Moyers and wife Lorrie of Great Bend, KS, and five grandchildren: Justin, Alexander, Nicholas, Macy, and Abbie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Edwin, and her sister Bernice.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Rose officiating.  Burial will follow in Mt. Allen Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until 11:00 on Wednesday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made payable to: Hays First United Methodist Church or to FHSU Foundation for the Edwin Moyers Music-String Memorial Scholarship.  Condolences and memories of Louise may be shared with the family at www.haysmemorial.com
