GTR Limousine & Party Services LLC is ready to provide the wheels. Area athletes can provide the entertainment. With the high school fall sports season ramping up, GTR is ready to enhance the experience with its Great Bend High School Football Friday Nights Tailgate Party Package.
"It's a package where somebody can purchase a bus for the evening, get all their friends together, then travel to the out-of-town sporting events we're having," said GTR's Jennifer Turner. "We're going to try it with football first and see how that goes over."
At this time, GTR will rent a bus to a group for the purpose of traveling to games, though individual ticket sales may be an option in the future. Seating will be limited to approximately 25 fans to allow space for packing food, drinks, stadium chairs, or anything else needed to enjoy Friday Night Lights. Fees are based on travel time only with the usual waiting fees waived. Turner said it's a way to bring the community together with the added bonus of supporting local athletes on the road.
"Our goal really is to offer more alternatives to people in the community," she said. "There are so many different ways we can use the buses, and we want to find different and unique ways to use the buses. Being in a bus isn't always about drinking and partying, it's about being together with people."
The Panther football team has four road games scheduled for the regular season. The bus will depart and return to the parking lot at Great Bend High School. With a game at rival Hays on Sept. 8, GTR would like to plan additional buses for student travel.
"It's making it fun and something different," Turner said. "It's a short distance there and a short distance back. It's all about getting the kids pumped up about the game and getting them there so there's a big fan base at the game."
