The original Lincoln Elementary School in Hoisington was built in 1926.
A $10.1 million bond was passed that allowed students and staff to move into a new
school in 2017. When Karisa Cowan took over as principal at Lincoln, she was
quickly informed about the possibility of creating a rock wall by Tim
Schremmer, P.E. teacher.
"There was supposed to be a rock wall in the original plan of building Lincoln but it got excluded," said Cowan. "The first day I started, Mr. Schremmer asked about a rock wall in the gym. I said one day I'll make it happen."
Selling flowers during the spring, Lincoln staff and students raised enough
money to purchase the $22,000 rock climbing wall to be installed in the gym.
The wall was bought through Everlasting Climb and is 40' wide and 8' tall.
"I figured we would host a few special events," said Cowan. "We do some family engagement nights, so maybe we'll try to base one around the wall so people can come see it."
The wall will be installed at Lincoln in late August.
