Barton men’s golf finishes tied for 5th at Central Districts

Featuring some of the nation's top NJCAA golfers and five teams ranked inside the Top-20, the No. 30 Barton Community College men's golf team finished tied for fifth on Tuesday afternoon at the Central District Championships held over two days at Tiffany Greens Golf Club in Kansas City, Mo.

The Cougars began Monday's 36-holes with a team 307 and 303 for a fifth best 610 before slipping into a tie for the spot following a final round of 312 to finish at 58-over 922 for the tournament in being joined by No. 17 Iowa Western Community College.

Falling four strokes back behind fourth place and No. 12 ranked Dodge City's 52-over 916 for the District's final top four automatic national qualifying bid, Barton will now play the waiting game of possibly receiving one of the eight at-large national wild cards announced Friday afternoon.

Jayhawk Conference foe and No. 10 ranked Garden City Community College led the nine-team field with a 22-over 886 while No. 4 Indian Hills Community College fell in the runner-up slot falling seven strokes back at 893 and No. 3 ranked Hutchinson Community College rounding out the top-three placings with a 34-over 898.

The sophomore remained consistent over the tournament, carding a 2-over 74 in the opening round before posting a 3-over 75 in the second round to sit in seventh at the conclusion of Day 1.

Lambert concluded his tournament with another 3-over 75 falling one stroke back of a top-8 finish and automatic individual national tournament berth.

Firing off a 6-over 78 in his opening round, Ted Gemzell made a solid climb up the leaderboard in the second round firing off a team tournament best single round 73 for 1-over concluding the day in 14th. Gemzell turned in a final round 4-over 76 moving up a spot up the leaderboard finishing 13th at 11-over 227.

Sitting in 27th at the conclusion of day one after carding a 9-over 81 and 4-over 76, Martin Chevallier made the biggest leap in day two moving up four spots to 23rd overall with a third round five-over 77.

Matteu Cauvin-Piacentini began his opening two rounds posting the 21st best two round 3-over 75 and 7-over 79 but took a tumble down to 32nd at 22-over 238 following a final card 85 for 12-over.

Talon Reynolds rounded out the team entries in 37th at 30-over 246 on 80-82-84 cards.
