In its final tune-up for post-season, the Barton track and field program competed Saturday at the Rock Chalk Classic in Lawrence, Kansas.

For the second week in a row, sophomore Cedricka Williams broke her own national record, last week breaking her achievement from her freshman campaign to better her last meet's achievement at the Michael Johnson Invitational.

Saturday after reaching the finals, Williams exceeded her best by over a foot on her fourth attempt to remark the NJCAA's all-time distance at 59.89m (196-06) in placing 4th overall against a stacked field.

Barton now takes final preparations for the post-season beginning Thursday in Coffeyville for the KJCCC/Region 6 Championships taking place May 1-3, followed by the National Championships held May 15-17 in Hutchinson.

The Cougars also earned a pair of first place finishes on the day, national qualifier Asharria Ulett winning the 100m hurdles (13.98), Jasiah Clapp leading a 1-2 Barton 800m finish in a personal best time (1:54.98) with Keandro Gordon taking the runner-up position (1:55.66). Also earning a second place finish in the 400m, qualifier Joshua Mascall clocked a 47.27, with Natasha Fox earning Barton's next highest 3rd placing in the 400m hurdles on a 1:01.36 time, just missing her national qualifying best time by less than a second.
