On Saturday, May 31, at about 6:43 a.m. Barton County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a reported injury accident on US 56 Highway at mile marker 201, just south of the Railroad and Patton intersection. Initial reports indicated that a truck tractor/semi-trailer combination had turned over onto its side.
Upon arrival, deputies located a 1996 Red Kenworth truck tractor and trailer loaded with hay bales on its driver side in the ditch. The driver was identified as Isaac Picotte of Oklahoma.
Investigation at the scene indicates the tractor trailer unit failed to negotiate the curve on US 56, just south of Railroad Ave, tipped over onto its side and entered the ditch where it came to a rest.
Picotte was transported by ground ambulance to The University of Kansas Health System in Great Bend with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Great Bend Fire and EMS.
