Meals On Wheels of Barton County is in need of volunteers to deliver meals. Currently in Barton County, there are 73 individuals receiving hot, nutritious meals prepared at the Great Bend Senior Center.

Volunteers in Action of Central Kansas Director Linn Hogg said drivers for Meals on Wheels make a big impact on homebound seniors.

"A lot of these people are alone," said Hogg. "They're homebound. They don't have outside contact with the world. When we're like that, we tend to let the walls come in on us. These volunteers that deliver these meals, that's the only person they may see. A volunteer represents a friendly face, a kind word and someone who cares."

The volunteer opportunity can be flexible to once a week, once a month or you can choose which days out of the month. The service takes less than an hour of your day and can be completed between 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

"These routes are never empty," said Hogg. "We always have a need for volunteers. We're constantly needing substitutes. If they have a profile in our software, they can find the volunteer opportunities right away."
