The Barton Community College women's track and field team pieced together a strong two-site weekend, sending its throwers to the John Jacobs Invitational in Norman, Oklahoma, while the remainder of the squad competed at the Arkansas Spring Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Climbing up a spot on the national rankings, the weekend was highlighted by a trio of nation-leading performances in Fayetteville, as the Cougars' 4x100m relay, Celine Riddle in the triple jump, and the 100m hurdle duo of Camoy Binger and Asharria Ulett each sit atop the national leaderboard.
Overall, the Cougars added two new national qualifying performances, along with eleven personal and/or season bests.
Headlining the track events, the 4x100m relay team of Binger, Thomphang Basele, Sethunya Majama, and Kayda Austin raced to a first-place finish in a national qualifying 45.12, currently ranking No. 1 in the nation.
Riddle matched that top billing in the field, delivering a breakout performance in winning the triple jump with a personal best leap of 12.73m (41-9.25), moving into a tie for 9th all-time in program history while also climbing to No. 1 nationally.
Basele continued her strong season with a runner-up finish in the 400m at 54.02, while Alexia Walker added Barton's lone new individual national qualifier of the weekend, clocking a personal best 1:02.90 in the 400m hurdles. Natasha Fox added a season-best effort of 1:01.73 to place 7th in the event.
The sprint and hurdle groups added several season-best and personal-best efforts, including a personal best 13.55 from Binger in the 100m hurdles and Majama lowering her 100m mark to 11.85. In the 200m, Austin and Takeila Williams each improved their fastest times at 24.42 and 24.82 respectively.
Competing in Norman, Barton's throws group produced another quality showing, placing three athletes in the top four of the discus. Shamoyea Morris led the way with a runner-up finish at 48.47m, followed by Shamoye Morris and Zadie Mackey posting personal best marks of 48.05m and 47.01m respectively, with all three Cougars already meeting national qualifying standards.
