From the Great Bend Fire Department…
At approximately 3:45 p.m. on Monday, June 12, the Great Bend Fire Department responded to the 200 block of SE 30 Road for the report of a shed on fire. First unit onscene found a 40’ x 60’ wood frame metal building fully involved in fire with multiple propane tanks exploding and several more tanks exposed to fire.
With a significant amount of fire, the fire was attacked from the exterior. The fire being out in the county required a water shuttle to be set up with tankers hauling water from Great Bend. Mutual aid tankers were requested from Ellinwood Fire. Also assisting with the water shuttle were the Barton County Road Department and Haz-Mat Response. The building and contents are considered a total loss. The fire was investigated by investigators from the Great Bend Fire Department and was determined to be accidental in nature.
The Great Bend Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Barton County Sheriff’s Office, Barton County Road Department, Ellinwood Fire Department, Haz-Mat Response and Midwest Energy. We would also like to thank Barton County 911 for their assistance. It is through these relationships built with our community partners that helped bring the fire under control quickly.
