The Barton Community College wrestling team wrapped up its November slate Saturday at the annual UNK Younes Hospitality Open inside the Sportsplex in Kearney, Nebraska. Competing in the freshman and sophomore Amateur Bracket, the Cougars produced a 17-35 overall record against a deep field featuring multiple NCAA Division II, NAIA, and NJCAA programs.
Barton was led by Brennen Pfannenstiel at 149 pounds, piecing together a 5-1 performance before reaching the daily match count. Pfannenstiel opened his day with a fall before being bounced to the consolation side, where the freshman regrouped with four victories including two more pins and a pair of decisions before hitting the match limit. Pfannenstiel's lone setback came on the championship side against Chadron State's Aidan Callahan.
The Cougars' other two multi-win efforts came from Teron Kraft (184-pounds), Jamal Garrett (125-pounds) who each finished their day 2-2 on the mats. Kraft's work was highlighted by a lightning quick 23-second fall in the second championship round and a 22-3 tech fall to advance into the consolation fifth round before bowing out to Western Colorado's Gabriel Cox. Garrett delivered his wins with a pair of high-scoring consolation decisions, 18-11 and 22-16, to reach the consolation round 4.
Several others in the Barton lineup also found the win column, with Joshua "AJ" Almanza (133), Shane Todd (133), Clayton Considine (141), Isaiah Morales(157), Dominic Riccardi (174), Brody Schnoebelen (197), and Keyven Schroeder (285) each producing victories across their respective brackets.
Additional highlights included Considine's second-round fall in the consolation and Todd's second period pin of Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa's John Marriott to advance into the Consolation Round 4.
Following the Thanksgiving break, the Cougars will return to action on December 7, competing at the annual Bob Smith Open hosted in Hays inside Fort Hays State University's Gross Memorial Coliseum.
