According to Kansas State Department of Education, the Hoisington school district had a K-12 enrollment number of 762 students during the 2021-2022 school year. That district headcount enrollment was at 743 last school year.
USD 431 Superintendent Patrick Crowdis said this fall’s enrollment was trending down again.
"It's vital that we take a look at that," said Crowdis. "I know it's been suggested that we take a look at seeing if we can determine why. We have not talked about that administratively yet, but we will be talking about that."
This fall’s headcount had 30 less students than the previous year. Crowdis is looking at ways to attract more families to Hoisington to avoid losing state funding in the future due to the enrollment drop.
"Some of the things I've talked to some of our community people about is the need for quality housing," said Crowdis. "If we don't have quality housing, people are not moving here. They're choosing to move to Great Bend. That's a concern."
Hoisington High School’s enrollment is at 215 students.
