11 players drafted from state programs in MLB draft

Eleven players from Kansas college baseball programs heard their names called during the 2026 Major League Baseball Draft, with athletes from the University of Kansas, Kansas State and Wichita State selected over the two-days.

The University of Kansas had four players drafted. Shortstop Tyson LeBlanc was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the second round, while left fielder Brady Ballinger joined him in the organization after being taken in the seventh round with the 216th overall pick.

KU pitcher Dominic Voegele was chosen by the Baltimore Orioles in the third round with the 82nd overall selection, and pitcher Mathis Nayral went to the Toronto Blue Jays in the 13th round at No. 402 overall.

Kansas State had four players selected. Shortstop Dee Kennedy was picked by the St. Louis Cardinals in the fourth round, followed by right-handed pitcher James Guyette in the fifth round by the San Diego Padres. Right-hander Tazwell Baker was selected by the Houston Astros in the 10th round, while catcher Bear Madliak was chosen by the Athletics in the 18th round.

Wichita State also produced three draft picks. Infielder Jayson Jones went to the Chicago White Sox in the eighth round after leading the Shockers offensively with a .355 batting average, 15 home runs and 56 RBIs. Right-handed pitcher Brady Hamilton was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 14th round, and catcher Max Kaufer, who hit .440 before a season-ending injury, was taken by the Texas Rangers in the 18th round.
