The City of Hoisington announced they have 2024 special vehicle permits in stock. The city has requirements that allow citizens to drive golf carts and special-use vehicles throughout town.
City Manager Jonathan Mitchell said along with golf carts, there are residents that drive worksite utility vehicles or micro utility trucks.
"In order to drive them, you have to have insurance, lights, signal kits and things like that," said Mitchell. "It's a safety measure we've taken. In order to get those permits, people just call the police department. They pay an annual fee to have us inspect the vehicle to make sure it meets those specifications."
With no jurisdiction to change state laws on highways, the special-use vehicles must stay on the residential or side streets. Golf carts and other special-use vehicles may cross the highway.
To get a permit, residents can contact the Hoisington Police Department at 620-653-4995.
