The grand opening for the Shafer Gallery on the campus of Barton Community College took place in 1992, but for the past 13 years the name Dave Barnes and Shafer Gallery have gone hand-in-hand. Barnes has served as the art gallery’s executive director since 2010.
At Tuesday’s Barton Board of Trustees
meeting, Foundation Executive Director Lindsey Bogner shared information of
Barnes’ retirement next month.
"Alyssa Bliven will be taking on the position of director of the gallery," said Bogner. "We are looking at that second position to start replacing sometime soon."
Alyssa Bliven has been the Shafer Gallery Associate for just under two years. She
studied at Hastings College and received a Master of Fine Arts from Cranbrook
Academy of Art.
Barnes’ retirement date is Aug. 31. More information on Barnes' retirement celebration will be released later.
