
At approximately 12:31 a.m. on Thursday, June 15, the Great Bend Fire Department responded to the report of a structure fire in the 5700 block of Rosewood Drive in the City of Great Bend.
First units on scene found a single family residence with heavy smoke and fire coming from the residence. Crews made a quick interior attack and were met with high heat and heavy smoke conditions. Crews were able to quickly locate and extinguish the fire.
While the fire was being extinguished, a search was done of the residence to make sure no one was inside. Crews did locate a family pet in the residence and was not breathing when they exited the residence. Fire crews were able to resuscitate the pet and turned the pet over to animal control for care.
Great Bend Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Great Bend Police Department, Kansas Gas Service and Wheatland Electric.
The fire was investigated by an investigator with the Great Bend Fire Department and the cause is undetermined pending further investigation. The fire is not considered suspicious in nature.
