
The Great Bend High School volleyball team opened the season with a 1-1 showing against a pair of Western Athletic Conference rivals in Garden City and Liberal. Tuesday night things got a little easier with a road trip to another WAC school. The Lady Panthers handled Dodge City in a best-of-five match 25-12, 25-20, 25-10.
Senior Rylie Duvall paced the offense with 10 kills, followed by sophomore Kara Feist with seven. Cassie Ellegood and Valarie Luna combined for nine more spikes. Junior Sadie Spray dished up most of the assists with 28. Juniors Paige Thexton and Lauryn Davis served up three and two aces, respectively.
Defensively, the senior Luna did her thing up front with nine blocks, followed by four from Feist. Junior Macy Nachtical led a busy back row with 10 digs. Spray and Kyndall Blessing each added nine digs, Thexton finished with eight, and Luna had six.
The Lady Panthers take a 2-1 record into Saturday's tournament in Riley County.
