On Saturday, Aug. 26, just after 3 a.m., Barton County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a reported injury accident at the intersection of Railroad Avenue and US 56 Highway, southwest of the City of Great Bend.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered a 2008 Kenworth truck tractor and a tank semi-trailer loaded with milk, had overturned and was lying on its side in the west ditch.
Investigation at the scene indicated the commercial vehicle was operated by Gustavo Salazar, age 54 of Granville, Iowa, had failed to stop at the stop sign on Railroad Avenue for westbound traffic. The driver was unable to negotiate the curve going on to US 56 when it overturned. Salazar and a passenger were both treated at the scene for minor injuries and released.
