The Barton Community College men's golf team carried a share of the lead into Tuesday's final round before finishing third at the two-day Bethel Fall Invitational held at Hesston Municipal Golf Course.
Barton blistered the course with an opening-round 279, 16 strokes better than the next-best team score, to seize the early tournament lead. The Cougars followed with a 296 Monday afternoon as Ottawa University charged into a share of the lead, leaving the two squads deadlocked at 575 through 36 holes. Barton closed with a 306 Tuesday to finish third at 29-over 881 in the 13-team field.
Landon Timmermeyer and Phattarapol Ongla led the Cougars with matching 4-over 217 totals, tying for seventh among the 71-player field.
Timmermeyer stormed out of the gates with a 6-under 65, tied for the second-lowest round in program history, to grab the individual lead. The sophomore remained atop the leaderboard through Monday's second round following a 73 before a final-round 79 dropped him into a share of seventh. The opening round card tied Natchapol Srinoon's 65 set at the 2015 KWU Invitational, trailing Axel Bolander's 6-under 64 at the 2022 Carmichael Cup for the program's lowest round.
Ongla remained in contention throughout the tournament as well, opening with an even-par 71 before firing a 2-under 69 in Monday's second round to sit tied for second entering Tuesday. A final-round 77 completed his 217 total and matching seventh-place finish.
Kobey Jackson climbed four spots during Tuesday's final round, carding a 73 to finish tied for 16th at 11-over 224 following Monday rounds of 73 and 78.
Julien Rosain made an even bigger final-day move, firing an even-par 71 to climb eight positions into a tie for 20th at 12-over 225. Rosain improved each trip around the course with rounds of 79, 75 and 71.
Antonio Vidal placed 24th at 15-over 228, opening with a 1-under 70 before rounds of 81 and 77, while Hein van den Berg rounded out the Barton contingent tied for 34th at 21-over 234 following rounds of 78, 76 and 80.
The Cougars return to competition Oct. 12-13 at the Ottawa Invitational held at Eagle Bend Golf Course in Lawrence.
