Cocaine, handgun located in Great Bend traffic stop

On Friday, March 31 at about 10 p.m., deputies with the Barton County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop in the 3700 block of Lakin Street in Great Bend. A deputy stopped a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee operated by Michael Danielson, age 56 of Great Bend.

During the course of the traffic stop, the Great Bend Police Department K9, Menta, indicated the presence of controlled substances. Deputies located suspected cocaine, $800 in US currency, drug paraphernalia as well as a loaded Sig Sauer 9 mm handgun.

Danielson was arrested at the scene without incident and transported to the Barton County Jail. He was booked on requested charges of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal use of a firearm. He’s being held in lieu of a $50,000 cash or surety bond.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Great Bend Police Department.
