Unfortunately, the City of Great Bend had to make the decision to cancel the Home for the Holidays Parade and festival this past Saturday because of the weather. The good news is there are still entertainment options to get you into the holiday spirit.

Along with downtown Christmas windows, Dolly Trolley rides, the city offers various locations throughout town to enjoy the Trail of Lights.

Great Bend Community Coordinator Christina Hayes said there are always opportunities to volunteer, including at the free ice skating offered downtown to the south of the Barton County Courthouse.

"If you work for the skate shack, which is really where we're needing the extra volunteers, you ask people the size of skates they need," said Hayes. "When they return the ice skates, you spray the skates with sanitizer and put them back away."

The Santas Around the World exhibit is available at 1223 Main Street. The Christmas Craft Mall will be open until Dec. 23 on Lakin Avenue, and the Golden Belt Model Railroad display can be viewed at 1405 Main.
