Senior food box program serves Russell County

The Kansas Food Bank along with USDA is providing monthly food boxes to low income seniors.  The Commodity Supplemental Food Program is available in Russell County at the Otterbein United Methodist Church – Agape Family Center to persons age 60 and above who qualify by meeting income requirements. 

Interested seniors must fill out an application and provide the following:  proof of ID and proof of address of their current address is not on their ID.  Once approved, they will receive a monthly box.  Seniors will self-declare if they meet income guidelines just like with the TEFAP program.

The Kansas Food Bank will be scheduling appointments in Russell at the Otterbein United Methodist Church – Agape Family Center, 527 N Maple St, on Thursday, March 7, 10 am to noon, to register seniors for the program.  To schedule an appointment, call Debi at the Kansas Food Bank, 316-265-3663.  Applicants should bring their ID and proof of address with them.   

Food packages include a variety of foods, such as nonfat dry and ultra-high temperature fluid milk, juice, farina, oats, ready-to-eat cereal, rice, pasta, peanut butter, dry beans, canned meat, poultry or fish, and canned fruits and vegetables.
