Great Bend Post
Are the in-laws in town? Looking for something to do in Great Bend over the holiday break?
Great Bend Community Coordinator Christina Hayes said your
evening should definitely start with the Trail of Lights around town.
"You'll want to go to Jack Kilby Square and check out both sides of the courthouse," said Hayes. "The wild lights at Brit Spaugh Park and Zoo is always fun to enter. Then head down Broadway for the lights by the lake. We typically have one at K-96 and 10th Street. Then you'll drive around and hit the Barton County Historical Society lights."
With a Christmas Window Decorating Contest this holiday season, Hayes invites
everyone browse the downtown area to look at the displays, including Yours
Truly Gift & Flower Shoppe on Lakin Avenue which won the top prize.
There is also the ice skating available at Jack Kilby Square. For those with
their own skates, the rink is open any time. Rentals will be available next
week.
"Because of the cold weather, ice skating this weekend will be cancelled," said Hayes. "We still have one more week. December 29 and December 30 we will have some time for the free ice skating rentals."
The last two days of free ice skate rentals will be next Thursday, Dec. 29 and Friday, Dec. 30 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
