City of Dorrance reports vandalized speed alert sign, 'This is your town'

From the City of Dorrance...

The new speed alert sign on the west end of town has been vandalized, and the solar panel has been stolen.

These signs were installed for one simple reason: to protect the people who live here. Too many vehicles have been flying through town, ignoring the posted speed limit. We have children and adults walking, biking, ATVing, and driving across Highway 40 around the clock. The speeding has become such a concern that our community came together to take action.

With generous help from The Old 40 Bar, donations from local citizens and businesses, support from the City of Dorrance, and assistance from the Russell County Highway Department, we were able to raise enough funds to purchase two of the three planned signs. These are not cheap. This was money donated by hard-working, community-minded individuals—many of them on fixed incomes—because they care about our town’s safety.

Yes, we’ve already had some issues with the signs, possibly due to wind vibration, and now we’re facing outright vandalism. Replacements are being looked into, but let’s be clear: vandalism is not only disappointing—it’s unacceptable and it will not be tolerated.

This is YOUR town. Let’s continue to take pride in it and stand up for what keeps our community safe.
