Barton County Administrator Matt Patzner told the Commission last week that it is the county’s practice to transfer unexpended funds from one year to the next. After multiple discussions, the board recommended and approved certain 2024 transfers to help the county moving forward with the uncertainty of the economy.
Following the transfers, Patzner told Commissioner Donna Zimmerman that the county’s total reserves would be around $8 million. Zimmerman felt that was a healthy number after the county utilized more than $5.1 million last year for the HVAC and renovations to the Barton County Courthouse.
"I think that is something to celebrate," said Zimmerman. "You think about what we spent and how hard that vote was when we very first took office. We decided to fix up this building that needed that kind of repair, yet able to make those transfers and have a healthy reserve. That's something to celebrate."
The Commission approved a $464,804.09 transfer to the capital improvement fund. For equipment replacement, $150,000 was transferred to the Road and Bridge equipment replacement fund.
