Over the last few years, the Larned City Council has set aside monies for a pool reserve fund. The fund allows the City of Larned to make repairs and improvements to the pool as money allows.

This year, crews are power washing and stain blasting the basin. Larned Finance Director Monica Steiner said once crews get down to the base layer, they will repair cracks and install a pool lining.

"That's their big project this year is to get the pool basin repaired, since we've had problem with leaks," said Steiner. "They also replaced the main drain valve."

In 2019, Larned began applying a $3 per month fee to utility bills to assist with pool projects which allows residents to utilize the pool for free.

"The city was originally debating between building a brand new pool or trying to repair what we have," said Steiner. "The council decided to repair because otherwise they were going to get a much smaller pool. We added the splash pad last year. We also recently installed new decking all around."

The Larned City Swimming Pool opens on Memorial Day and closes in the middle of August.
