Great Bend Police make arrests in drug, disturbance cases

On Friday, Aug. 23, at approximately 10 a.m., officers of the Great Bend Police Department attempted to serve arrest warrants at a residence in the 2800 block of 20th Street in Great Bend and were met with resistance. Officers and detectives then obtained a search warrant for the residence. Upon executing the search warrant, Eric Torres, age 39; and Rebecca Muckenthaler, age 41, were located inside of the residence.

During a search of the property, methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia were located. Torres was arrested on arrest warrants for burglary, theft and drug charges, in addition to new charges of felony obstruction, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and no drug tax stamp. Torres was transported to the Barton County Jail where he was booked on these charges in lieu of bond.

Muckenthaler was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and no drug tax stamp. Muckenthaler was also transported to the Barton County Jail where she was booked on these charges in lieu of bond.

On Friday, Aug. 23, at approximately 6:05 p.m., an officer of the Great Bend Police Department observed an individual at a local establishment within Great Bend. The officer recognized the subject and had knowledge that the person had a valid Barton County District Court warrant.

When contacted by the officer, Nathan Moore, age 35, fled on foot down the alley and into a backyard of a residence in the 2300 block of Kansas Avenue. Moore resisted arrest, and the officer deployed his electronic control device on Moore, who was then taken into custody without further incident. 

After Moore was in custody, a search of his person revealed both marijuana and methamphetamine. Moore was transported to the Barton County Jail and booked on the charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, interference with law enforcement as well as the outstanding warrant.

On Sunday, Aug. 25, at approximately 3:45 p.m., officers of the Great Bend Police Department were dispatched to the 3300 block of 10th Street in Great Bend in reference to a disturbance. Upon officers arrival, they contacted a female victim and Antonio Quiroz, age 26.

Officers were advised that during the disturbance, Quiroz had damaged the female's vehicle. While investigating the incident, K-9 Niko was deployed for a sniff of Quiroz's vehicle. A subsequent search was conducted, which revealed a white powder substance consistent with cocaine, as well as an open container of beer. Quiroz was transported to the Barton County Jail, where he was booked on charges of possession of cocaine, criminal damage, criminal restraint and transportation of an open container in lieu of bond.
