From the city of Great Bend

After a two-year hiatus, the city of Great Bend is excited to bring back a pair of movies to the Jack Kilby Square bandshell this summer. Held on the second Fridays of June and July, the city of Great Bend, in partnership with Parr Sound and Lighting, will feature “National Treasure” on June 12 and “Zootopia 2” on July 10.

Admission is free, and both showings will begin after sunset. Free popcorn and a dirty soda bar will be available, but attendees are responsible for bringing their own seating.

The films were selected through a popular vote on the city’s Facebook page. The June feature follows a theme of America 250, while the July showing is geared toward a family-friendly night out.

First hitting the big screens in 2004, “National Treasure” is an action-adventure heist film starring Nicolas Cage as Ben Gates, who is on a quest to find the Founding Fathers hidden treasure. The movie received a BMI Film & TV Award and was nominated for nine other awards.

A highly anticipated sequel that premiered in November 2025, “Zootopia 2” will be shown on July 10. A motion picture about two animal law enforcement officers, rabbit Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and fox Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) try to prove themselves as reliable detectives. The duo teams up to tackle a case that makes them question everything they know about Zootopia.

In the last six months, “Zootopia 2” has won 20 awards, including a British Academy Film Award for Best Animated Film.
