Barton Men's Basketball will be down its top assistant heading into next season, as Tyson Downing is headed back to the school he graduated from to take over as head coach.
Downing arrived at Barton in 2023, following a playing career that saw him play under now-Barton head coach Jeremy Coombs at Neosho County Community College from 2013 to 2015. He then played at Midland University in Fremont, Nebraska.
He joined Barton's staff as an assistant coach for both Men's and Women's basketball, before joining the Men's staff full-time in the 2025-2026 season.
Over his three years on staff, Barton logged 86 wins, two conference titles, and a national championship in the 2023-24 season. On X, head coach Jeremy Coombs wrote the message "Go be GREAT!"
