The end of the summer is nearing. That means Hoisington is gearing up for its 127 Annual Labor Day Celebration. The theme for this year's celebration, which runs Sept. 1-4, is "Shifting Gears." Chamber of Commerce Director Karen Baldyga said the big weekend always begins with the painting of Walk of Fame stars.

"This week, the kids are going to start getting out there and fixing them up and maybe getting rid of some of the old ones," she said. "If they want theirs to stay, let me know as soon as possible. Of course, if it gets painted over, we can still paint their name on there. That's not a problem."

Anyone wishing to keep their star from last year is asked to contact the chamber by Aug. 14. The deadline to order a new star is Aug. 25. The stars will be displayed throughout the Labor Day Celebration and last for one year.

"If people want their star they had last year, they just have to call up and it's the same price," Baldyga said. "It's $20. They can do all of this online as well at our website."
