A record-setting performance by Masaki Tsuji highlighted another week of individual recognition for the No. 3 Barton Community College men's soccer team, as the sophomore earned NJCAA Division I Offensive Player of the Week honors while joining teammate Pedro Lisboa among the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference's weekly award recipients.
Tsuji was additionally named the KJCCC Division I Offensive Player of the Week, while Lisboa collected his fifth conference Goalkeeper of the Week honor of the season following Barton's 8-0 victory over Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College and 3-3 draw against No. 6 Cowley College.
Tsuji delivered five goals and two assists for 12 points across just 134 minutes of action, recording consecutive multi-goal performances while becoming Barton's all-time career goals leader.
The sophomore opened the week with his second hat trick of the season, adding two assists for eight points in just 44 minutes during Wednesday's victory over NEO. He followed with Barton's first two goals in Saturday's nationally ranked showdown against Cowley, with his second strike breaking a 16-year-old program record and pushing his career total to 35 goals.
The performances marked Tsuji's sixth multi-goal outing of his collegiate career, with the eight-point effort matching his previous season high.
Between the posts, Lisboa helped the Cougars secure an unbeaten week, posting a 1-0-1 record with seven saves across 152:36 of action. The sophomore finished with a .700 save percentage and 1.77 goals-against average, with one of the three goals allowed coming on an own goal.
Lisboa opened the week with four saves in 62:36 of scoreless action against NEO before adding three saves against Cowley, including a crucial stop with just over a minute remaining to preserve the 3-3 draw.
The latest selections mark Barton's eighth and ninth KJCCC weekly honors of the season. Lisboa leads the way with five Goalkeeper of the Week awards (Weeks 1, 2, 5, 8 and 10), while Rafael Calmon earned consecutive offensive honors in Weeks 8 and 9, Shun Imai was recognized in Week 6, and Tsuji adds the Week 10 offensive award.
Tsuji's national recognition is Barton's third NJCAA Division I weekly honor of the season, joining Lisboa's Week 2 Goalkeeper of the Week selection and Calmon's Week 8 Offensive Player of the Week award.
Sporting a 17-1-1 record, Barton enters the Region 6/Plains District Tournament as the No. 1 overall seed. The Cougars open postseason play Sunday, hosting sixth-seeded Dodge City Community College at 1:00 p.m. at the Cougar Soccer Complex.
