SAO PAULO (AP) — FIFA will propose to its members a $6.35 billion fund for soccer development between 2027 and 2030, including a boosted amount of $25 million for each national association, two people with knowledge of the plan and a letter reviewed by The Associated Press confirmed on Tuesday. Soccer’s world governing body will use the financial success of the latest World Cup to enhance investment in football development across 211 FIFA member associations, confederations and other stakeholders, says an official who spoke on condition of anonymity because the proposal hasn’t been announced.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Freddy Peralta threw six innings of four-hit ball, Liam Hicks lined a two-run single after a fielding error by José Ramírez, and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Cleveland Guardians 3-1 Tuesday night to even the AL Championship Series at 1-1. Game 3 is Thursday night in Cleveland. Ramírez, whose two-run homer in Game 5 of their AL Division Series against Chicago helped the Guardians become the 11th team to overcome an 0-2 deficit in a best-of-five series, misplayed a grounder in the fourth inning that led to three unearned runs against rookie lefty Parker Messick.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine has signed an executive order allowing the state's colleges and universities to let athletes who graduated high school in 2022 play a fifth year. This move defies the NCAA's new five-year eligibility rule. DeWine emphasizes fairness, stating Ohio athletes should have the same opportunities as those in other states. The order permits public and private universities in Ohio to allow athletes to play, even if they've already played four seasons. The NCAA has not yet responded. This decision could mirror California's past action on name, image, and likeness compensation, which influenced other states.

MIAMI (AP) — A Miami jury has found Tyreek Hill liable for two counts of battery but not liable for the eight remaining claims made by his estranged wife, Lakeeta Vaccaro. The verdict ends the high-profile civil trial involving the NFL wide receiver. Hill, who has played for the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins, was found liable for two counts of battery. One stemmed from an incident in January 2024, and another from April 2025. The jury awarded Vaccaro $500,000 in compensatory damages but did not award her punitive damages. The jury found Hill not liable for eight other counts.

A recently unsealed recruiting firm's report on Brian Flores contains multiple examples of “racial stereotypes” and amounts to unlawful retaliation for the coach's discrimination lawsuit against the league, according to his lawyers. The Korn Ferry report made public Tuesday lists strengths and weaknesses that Flores' attorneys say show the league still uses racial stereotypes in hiring. The report was prepared for the Las Vegas Raiders' coaching vacancy in 2024. Flores’ attorneys argue the report demonstrates systemic race discrimination and unlawful retaliation against Flores for his lawsuit.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Shohei Ohtani will be in the Los Angeles Dodgers' lineup for Game 3 of the National League Championship Series against the Milwaukee Brewers. Manager Dave Roberts says Ohtani will bat anywhere from second to sixth. The Dodgers lost the first two games of the best-of-seven series. Ohtani is hitting .150 over six postseason games. He has seven strikeouts, three walks, and one stolen base with no home runs. Roberts spoke to Ohtani before the team worked out at Dodger Stadium. He says it wasn't about benching Ohtani, but rather offering him time off similar to Freddie Freeman in 2024. Freeman went on to be World Series MVP.

The Atlanta Dream will host the Golden State Valkyries in Game 3 and Game 4 of the WNBA Finals at State Farm Arena, allowing for larger attendance, after the league moved one up a day and altered tipoff of the other to avoid conflicts at the venue. Game 3 of the best-of-seven series will be Wednesday, Oct. 21. Tipoff for Game 4 on Saturday, Oct. 24 will be 1 p.m. Eastern. The series begins Saturday in California. The location of the Dream home games had been up in the air because the team wanted to play at State Farm Arena, the home of the Hawks that seats more than 17,000 fans. Their normal home, Gateway Center Arena, holds only 3,500. Singer Sombr has a concert at State Farm Arena the night of Game 3 and the Hawks' home opener in the night of Game 4.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles Rams left tackle Alaric Jackson has been suspended for two games without pay for striking Buffalo linebacker Bradley Chubb in the face after their teams’ overtime game. Jackson is slated to miss the Rams’ upcoming games against Arizona and Las Vegas. Coach Sean McVay says Jackson plans to appeal the league's ruling. He says David Quessenberry will be the Rams’ starting left tackle during Jackson’s absence. Jackson struck Chubb after the two exchanged words following the Bills’ 37-34 overtime victory over the Rams at SoFi Stadium.

LeBron James is gearing up for another "Big Three" experience, this time with the Philadelphia 76ers. He joins Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Jaylen Brown in a star-studded lineup. Reflecting on his Miami Heat days with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, James warns that success takes time and sacrifice. Chris Bosh emphasizes the importance of team unity and prioritizing wins over personal stats. The 76ers face the challenge of balancing roles and sharing the spotlight. James, who took a significant pay cut, is focused on winning. The team must adapt and sacrifice to achieve their championship goals.

Barcelona survived a scare against Galatasaray in the Champions League. But Bayern Munich was stunned by a late equalizer from Viking in a 3-3 draw in Norway. Arsenal rolled over Lille 3-0 and it was more misery for Manchester United. Barcelona’s 100% start to the season was under threat down 1-0 to Galatasaray in Istanbul, but the Spanish champion rallied to a 4-1 win.
