Major improvements continue at Heizer Park in Great Bend. Already the park received the addition of the mini-pitch soccer courts, finished with an acrylic surface. A security system with cameras was installed last month.
Great Bend City Administrator Logan Burns said concrete was poured this week in front of the new restroom facility, and the Great Bend Kiwanis Club stepped up with a contribution.
"We're looking to do a press release with the Kiwanis Club maybe this week or next week," said Burns. "They donated $30,000 towards the shade structure out there. I big thank you goes out to them."
Great Bend was awarded grant funds from the Land & Water Conservation Fund through the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) in the amount of $161,260 with matching funds from the city for a total of $361,260 to make improvements at the park.
