HAYS - Great Bend raced out to an early 8-0 lead then held off a late Hays High comeback bid and beat the Indians softball team 13-7 Monday at the Bickle-Schmidt Sports Complex, handing Hays their sixth-straight loss. The game was the conclusion of a doubleheader which started on Thursday but was postponed due to weather.
The Panthers (15-4) scored three in the first and five in the second and built an early 8-0 lead. The Indians (9-7) answered with two in the bottom the second on an Avery Solida home run and Brynlee Rupp groundout, but the Panthers struck for two more in the top of the third then added another run in the fourth to go up 11-2.
Down 13-2, the Indians rallied with five in the bottom of the seventh.

The Panthers host Garden City Tuesday for one game at the Great Bend Sports Complex.
