The Barton Community College Board of Trustees approved the personnel report at Tuesday’s meeting which included the contract for Josh Winkler. Winkler was hired to become the executive director of business, technology and workforce development.
The new position will allow Winkler to get out into the community to make daily contact with businesses, furthering partnerships throughout Great Bend.
Trustees Chairman Mike Johnson approved of the hire to create a “face of the college” in the community.
"I've talked several times over the years, I think that's a valuable person that will be the face of the college to many individuals," said Johnson. "I think that's a really good hire. He'll travel the service area, not just Great Bend or Barton County."
Winkler’s mother and her five siblings attended Barton Community College. Working several positions in Sterling and Hutchinson, Winkler is transitioning out of the United States Air Force where he is based in North Carolina. Winkler will start his role with Barton on Jan. 8, 2024.
