Evelyn Lucille Hoffman, 92, died Aug. 13, 2022, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington. She was born June 11, 1930, at St. Rose Hospital, Great Bend, the daughter of Ferdinand and Angela (Werner) Johanning. On Sept. 10, 1953, she married Victor Hoffman at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellinwood. He survives.
A lifetime resident of the Ellinwood and Hoisington area, Evelyn graduated from Ellinwood High School in 1948. She then attended Sacred Heart College, where she was a music major, but later graduated as a R.N. from St. Rose School of Nursing in Great Bend in 1953. She worked as a R.N. at the Emporia Hospital for a short time. After she and her husband moved to Hoisington, she utilized these skills in her life long work of being a farm wife and mother.
Evelyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a homemaker, a partner in Hoffman Ranches, and E&V Oil Company. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church and Altar Society, where she exhibited her strong faith both in worship and in church activities, like leading RCIA classes. She was a volunteer for more than 50 years for the American Red Cross Bloodmobile, and served on the Barton County Planning Board from 1985-1988. Memberships included the St. Rose and Dominican Alumni Association and Kansas Farm Bureau. In 2002, Evelyn was the recipient of the Farm Bureau Century Farm Award. Her great grandfather, Ferdinand Koett, acquired the land in 1892, and it has been owned by family members since. She was a talented painter, a beautiful piano player, and enjoyed playing bridge with the Tri-N Bridge Club. With her main focus being faith, family and friends.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 69 years; four children, Alan (Kathy) Hoffman of Hoisington, Joan Hoffman of Lawrence, Wayne (Melanie) Hoffman of Red Cloud, Neb., and Leon Hoffman of Peyton, Colo.; a son-in-law, Todd Musser; 10 grandchildren, Eric (Mandy) Hoffman, Kevin (Veronica) Hoffman, Nathan (Kimberly) Hoffman, Ryan (Jenna) Hoffman, Bejamin Myers, Paul Myers, Landon (Breanna) Hoffman, Aliese Hoffman, Sarah Musser, and Marisa Musser; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Arlene Kutina of Great Bend. She is preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Ann E. Musser; and a sister, Thelma Dreiling.
Vistitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2022, with family to greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and a Vigil and Rosary to begin at 7 p.m., all at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2022, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, celebrated by Father Anselm Eke and Deacon Keith Hoffman. Burial will follow in St. John Catholic Cemetery, Hoisington.
