Carla Cleone Bowman, 80, passed away Jan. 3, 2024, at Brookdale Senior Living, Great Bend.
She was born Sept. 3, 1943, in Great Bend, the daughter of Guy DeLos and Glennis Eleanor (Schultz) Carr.
Carla grew up in the Larned area and graduated from Larned High School in 1961. Following graduation, she attended Emporia State University for 2 years. She lived many places: Quincy, Illinois, Winfield, Sublette, Pratt, Cimarron and Manhattan before moving to Great Bend in 2022. Carla worked many positions including but not limited to: being a Teller at First National Bank, Larned, retail at Parsons Jewelry in Pratt and as a High School Secretary in Ingalls, from which she retired.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church and UMW, PEO, and Ingalls Booster Club. She was director of Pheasant Hunters Dinner, a 4-H leader, bell and choir member, belonged to numerous bridge and coffee groups, an avid quilter, loved sewing and collected roosters. Carla was a wonderful homemaker, Mom, and selfless volunteer.
On Aug. 18, 1963, she married Gary Henry Bowman at Bergthal Mennonite Church in Pawnee Rock; he survives.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Tanya Smiley, Augusta and Traci (Ryan) Schneider, Hoisington; sister, Bonnie Carr, Wichita; brother, Harlie R. (Paula) Carr, Larned; and sister-in-law, Marlene Carr, Larned; three grandchildren, Jordan and Jaydan Smiley, Augusta, and Peyton Schneider, Hoisington.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Val Gene Carr and Larry Carr.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2024, at Beckwith Mortuary with Pastor Mike Keating presiding. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024, at Beckwith Mortuary with family present from 6-8 p.m. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Zook, Kansas.
