Kids' events are returning for the 126th Annual Hoisington Labor Day Celebration in September. Since 2013, the Touch-a-Truck event has been one of the most popular draws on Labor Day. The city announced last week the event would be returning for the 2022 celebration.

"It's totally cool," said Hoisington City Manager. "One thing we love is seeing the kids be able to go and ask questions about these vehicles. The firefighters usually let them actually spray water out of a fire hose. They get to do some cool stuff. Sometimes people will bring a mini excavator and let kids take scoops of dirt, or they bring a mobile dairy and let kids learn how about how that process works. It's really a cool opportunity."

A full slate of activities is scheduled for the Kid Stop at the Activity Center from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 3. The event will include turtle races, kids races, and crafts.

"You want to be able to treat your kids to things but stuff costs money," Mitchell said. "This event is totally free and has been since it started. We're proud to keep that going."

Touch-a-Truck started as a way for kids to learn about everyday working vehicles like firetrucks, ambulances, and farm equipment. It has since expanded to more unique vehicles like an Eagle Med Air Ambulance, souped-up lawnmowers, and the 72-foot Idaho Potato truck.

"We welcome anything," said Mitchell. "It's just about creating a unique experience for these little people."
