Major League Baseball's Pitch Hit & Run is returning to Great Bend before the July 4 holiday. Wednesday evening at 6 p.m., athletes from 7-14 years of age can test their ability in three categories at the Great Bend Sports Complex. Rec Sports Director Shane Sandberg explained the competition.
"They get five hits off of a tee and those will be measured and counted toward the total score," he said. "They get five pitches at a target that will be counted toward the final score. They will run from home to first twice and we will take the fastest one."
The event is again hosted by the Great Bend Rec and Optimist Club of Great Bend. The competition is for boys and girls.
"There are four different age groups for boys and girls: 7 and 8-year-olds, 9 and 10-year-olds, 11 and 12-year-olds, and 13 and 14-year-olds," Sandberg said.
The competition will take place on fields 2 and 3 of the Great Bend Sports Complex. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. Bats will be provided though athletes may use their own bat. The winner of the Great Bend Pitch Hit & Run will advance to the next level of competition.
