Did you know that the Great Bend Brit Spaugh Zoo is named after the city’s first director of public lands, Brit Spaugh? The name was officially changed in 1965 to be named after its founder. Historic information about Great Bend’s free zoo goes on and on. That’s part of the reason why the city moved forward with creating Zoo Look Books.

Great Bend Community Coordinator Christina Hayes said the hardcover books are currently getting printed.

"We're so excited to have these," said Hayes. "It's going to look so great. It's going to be a piece of memorabilia and marketing for our zoo. The zoo will be able to sell them and make a little bit of money off of it."

The books will detail the history of the Great Bend zoo. They will be available for purchase at the zoo and may be included in giveaways and promotions.

The Great Bend Convention and Visitors Bureau received a $3,468 grant from Kansas Tourism this past September to assist in the production of the books.
