Betty Jean Schmidt, 99, passed away January 18, 2021, at Brookdale Senior Living, Great Bend. She was born July 31, 1921, in Larned, Kansas to Virgil & Eula (Edwards) Standish. She married Jack E. Schmidt September 22, 1940 in Larned. He died June 19, 2001.
A Great Bend resident, Betty was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, American Legion Post #180 Auxiliary, V.F.W. Post #3111 Auxiliary. She enjoyed golfing with Jack at Lake Barton Golf Course, the Saturday night dances at the Legion and playing bridge.
Survivors include, two sons, Robert Schmidt and wife Karen of Chandler, Ariz., and Douglas Schmidt and significant other Debbie Mrozinski of Manitowoc, Wis.; and a granddaughter, Christy Goddard and husband Darrell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Schmidt; a daughter in law, Barbara Schmidt; and two brothers, Jack Standish, and Virgil Standish, Jr.
Graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at the Great Bend Cemetery with Reverend Kathleen Luke presiding. Memorials have been designated to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
