HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Howard Hawks are the NJCAA Men's Division 1 basketball champions.
In a game that saw 9 lead changes and 3 ties, the Hawks held of College of Southern Idaho in the Hutchinson Sports Arena 82-67.
College of Southern Idaho got out to an early 7-2 lead, but the Hawks battled back and kept the remainder of the first half a back-and-forth game and took a 12-point lead on a 13-point run at the 8:12 mark of the first half.
The Golden Eagles chipped away at the lead using an 8-point run to pull within five, 19-24 at the 6:51 mark. The remainder of the first half was back and forth, and CSI took the halftime lead on a 3-pointer with 3-second mark of the half.
The second half belonged to the Hawks. They used a tight defense and good shot selection to pull ahead of the Golden Eagles and took the lead for good at the 12:29 mark of the second half on a three-pointer by Daniel Culberson.
The Golden Eagles end their season with a 34-3 record, the Hawks are 33-4.
