Action was light at Wednesday's Barton County Commission meeting, with only three appointments to the Central Kansas Community Corrections Advisory Board requiring votes. Human Resources Director Brenda Kaiser did speak about fulfilling several open positions in the county to ensure services remain up to par after several retirements.

"The positions in the county are great for individuals who like a predictable schedule and want to have a more limited travel schedule," she said. "Most travel, other than training, is limited to Barton County with our current vacancies."

There are a wide variety of vacant positions, from temporary summer help with road and bridge to a position as assistant county attorney. Full-time registered nurses are needed at the health department and benefit from a family-friend Monday through Friday schedule. Equipment operators are needed at the landfill and with road and bridge, detention officers are needed at the sheriff's office, and dispatchers are needed at 911.

"All of these are full-time positions and have an insurance package, which includes health, dental, and vision insurance," Kaiser said. "The KPERS retirement plan pays a set amount after you're vested, which will be paid for the rest of your life. Of course, the longer you work for a KPERS employer, the larger your payout in retirement will be."
