At last week’s Barton County Commission meeting, Commissioner Duane Reif had a chance to share his experience from when he joined a county worker to plow snow in February. Reif went out with Alan Baxter in one of the snow plow trucks shortly after the snow arrived.

"He took care of the curves, putting salt and sand down, handled areas around the stop signs," said Reif. "Any place that looked a little dangerous he was taking care of. I think you have a good employee."

Reif noted drivers can only travel around 30 miles per hour in the snow plow for the blade to properly remove the snow. The commissioner said the truck he rode in was a 2016 model with more than 200,000 miles.

"There are a lot of miles, but it was very nice and clean inside," said Reif. "Looks like they take very good care of it. I have to thank the Road and Bridge Department for taking care of things. With more than 200,000 miles on that truck, we couldn't keep it that long if they didn't do a good job."
