Stuff the Bus with United Way of Central Kansas is back this year and is hoping to double the impact thanks to support from Credit Union of America.
This year, UWCK has a goal of filling 250 backpacks for students across Great Bend. In collaboration with Central Kansas Christian Academy, Holy Family Elementary and USD 428, United Way hopes to help twice as many students as last year with their back-to-school supplies.
“With rising costs and family’s budgets being stretched tighter than ever, we see this as a way to alleviate some of that back to school stress," said Charell Owings, UWCK Executive Director. "We believe in the generosity of this community and are optimistic that we can reach our goal of 250 backpacks filled with the supplies students need to start the year off right.”
There are multiple ways you can support this initiative.
· Volunteers will be out at both Dillons locations and Walmart on July 22 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. asking shoppers to pick up a school supply or two while they are shopping.
· Drop off donations through the month of July at Sunflower Bank (3600 10th St) or the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce (1125 Williams).
· Collect supplies through your business, church, or organization. UWCK can pick the items up or you can drop them off at your preferred location on July 22.
· Don’t feel like shopping? Make a monetary contribution and let us do the shopping for the supplies that we don’t receive. Donate online at http://uwcentralks.betterworld.org/campaigns/stuff-bus.
· Volunteer an hour of your time to help us collect items. Sign up at https://volunteersinaction.galaxydigital.com/need/?agency_id=143082
Backpacks will be assembled by the UWCK team and distributed to the schools to allocate to families in need. Those who are needing backpacks for their students can reach out to their school after Aug. 10.
