Great Bend Softball takes three out of four in Dodge City

Posted Apr 19, 2026 3:10 PM

Great Bend Softball won three games in four tries over the weekend, defeating Maize South, Wichita Northwest, and Wichita East, and falling once to Derby, who won the battle of unbeaten teams.

Friday saw the Panthers open the round robin with a 4-2 victory over a tough Maize South team, before routing Wichita Northwest 10-0 in 5-inning run-rule victory.

The opener on Saturday saw the Panthers take their first loss of the season, a 3-1 defeat to a still-undefeated Derby team. The Panthers took a 1-0 lead in the 4th, but were unable to do any more damage. Derby responded with a 3-run 5th, which was all they needed to secure the victory.

Great Bend did respond in the nightcap, as the Panthers defeated Wichita East in another blowout, taking a 9-0 lead in the first inning, and ending things early with a 17-0 victory in just three innings.

The Panthers are now 15-1 and ranked as one of the top teams in 5A. They will play three games against Hays in the upcoming week, a single game on the road on Tuesday, before hosting a Thursday double-header against the Indians.
