Last month, the USD 428 Board of Education announced it was accepting sealed bids on the former bus barn and maintenance building located at 2019 12th Street in Great Bend. Monday night, Assistant Superintendent John Popp reported two bids had been submitted. The board approved the high bid from Matt and Dena Hiss for $211,111.
"We're excited to have a couple of bids on the property," Popp said. "If you remember, the property was appraised at $130,000, so this is good news. We would recommend approval of the high bid."
In September, the board approved a bid of $700,000 from ONE Gas, the parent company of Kansas Gas Service, for the former District Education Center at 201 S. Patton Road. Popp also provided updates on that contract.
"After much contract revisions back and forth, we do now have a contract for the sale of the old district office at 201 Patton Road," he said. "It should close on - we put Dec. 15 but it turns out that's a Sunday. We're actually going to probably going close on Dec. 13. In case you didn't know, that's Friday the 13th."
The Patton Road property was originally appraised at $535,000. The former central kitchen building located at 2201 Broadway Ave. is still for sale. The 28,000-square-foot facility is valued at $275,000.
