The Lady Panther wrestling team can hang its hat on the No. 7 ranking in the latest Class 5A polls from the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association. But Great Bend was little match for a Garden City team that entered Tuesday's Senior Night dual at GBHS ranked No. 28 in the nation. The Lady Buffs cruised to a 64-18 dual win.

All 18 Great Bend points came via the fall. Second-ranked Camdyn Post avenged an earlier loss to third-ranked Kaira Acosta at 105 pounds. One of the premiere matches on the night, it was also one of the longest with Post getting the pin 38 seconds into the third period.

That was not the case for third-ranked (at 170 pounds) Kirra Stevens at 190 pounds as she needed just 16 seconds to pin her opponent. Tara Newton picked up the other six points by pinning her 145-pound opponent midway through the second period.

Another marquee match nearly happened at 125 pounds. Great Bend freshman Micah Ellegood nearly defeated two-time defending champion Maya Tarbet at the Christmas Clash in December. Tarbet, ranked No. 1 at 130 pounds, needed all three periods to beat Brookylnn Kelly 13-0. Things were not much easier for Ellegood at 125 pounds as she was pinned in the first period by top-ranked Crystal Loera.

Sophia Bauer was pinned by fifth-ranked Nicole Abrego at 100 pounds. Keira Leyva was pinned by fourth-ranked Emjay Marez at 110 pounds, and Kayle Baldwin was pinned by third-ranked Marina Loera at 115 pounds.

Things were no easier at 120 pounds as second-ranked Julissa Rodriguez pinned Great Bend's Madison Ketch. Lea Nokes was pinned at 155 pounds and Danica Cline lost by fall at 170 pounds. Araceil Aguilera closed out the dual with a loss by fall at 235 pounds.
