Before the end of the year last month, the Barton County Commission made a move to transfer funds into the All Stars program organized by the Juvenile Services department of the 20th Judicial District. The program is designed to prevent youth from using alcohol, tobacco and drugs.
The Commission approved a $3,000 transfer from the general fund to the All Stars program, following County Administrator Matt Patzner’s explanation.
"Funding was previously provided as a Teen Court program in the past," said Patzner. "There is no specific statute that allows such a transfer, so this must be done by a resolution."
The All Stars program has been implemented in most school districts in Barton County. The program looks to delay the onset of substance abuse, bullying and promiscuity.
A celebration is held once sixth graders complete the program. The students write commitment letters and read them to their families as part of owning up to personal responsibility.
