J. Dion Vasquez, 62, died July 20, 2024, as a result of a vehicular accident. He was born March 29, 1962 , in Hoisington, the son of Joseph L. “Joe” and Claudetta “Sue” (Juby) Vasquez. Dion graduated from Hoisington High School in 1980, where he enjoyed playing sports. His love of sports continued into adulthood as he was a die-hard Kansas City Chiefs fan.
A lifetime Hoisington resident, Dion worked for Duke Drilling since 1988.
In 1982, he married Cindy Nuss and they were blessed with three children. They later divorced. He then married Candi Larson they were together 30 years and tied the knot on June 10, 2000. She blessed him with bringing four more children into the family.
He is survived by his wife Candi of the home; six children, Sheena Vasquez of Hoisington, Shannon Larson of Hoisington, Kori (Mike) Plank of Wichita, Ashley Larson of Oklahoma, Nikki Vasquez-Brown and fiance J.B. of Elk City, Okla., Kaleb Larson of Hoisington; stepmother, Judy Vasquez of Great Bend; three brothers, Steve (Bonnie) Vasquez of Claflin, Leland Vasquez of Hoisington, and Charles F. Beesley II of Sedalia, Mo.; a sister, Tina Bortz and husband Larry Gilliland of Hoisington; and 15 grandchildren, Zada Vasquez, Randy Chambers Jr., Exavier Chambers, Ruben Chambers, Lacie Larson, Amerie Hinz, Annika Hinz, Addilynn Lumley, Waylon Lumley, Gabriel Herrman, Demetrius Herrman, Ghentrie Brown, Jax Brown, Ashe Radden, and Blade Brown; a great-granddaughter, Stella Wilkins; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Bradley Vasquez, son, Justin Larson, and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Vasquez.
Visistation will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with family to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Daniel Vandenburg presiding. Family requests everyone to wear Chiefs apparel in honor of Dion. Graveside inurnment service will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 26, 2024, at Hoisington Cemetery.
